My hand on a paintbrush, my spirit tuned in, I have had the privilege of participating in the women’s’ spiritual movement helping the return of the Goddess archetype as our women spirits have strengthened and risen.

Sometimes I use shamanic practices to arrive at my images.

Spirit Passages at End of Life

In the period around my Mother’s death I was still teaching expressive art therapy at Maine College of Art. After her loving passing I turned to my paint to grieve and to grow. My own expressive therapy brought six paintings that I made reproductions of and shared in a boxed collection with about a dozen Hospice chaplains and death doulas around the country.

As part of our goodbyes my mother and I spoke about a near death experience she had decades before. I was asked by a member of the board of International Association of Near-Death Studies to write about my experience, because it had been emotionally helpful to both my mother and to me. My essay was used in one of their newsletters and then was published in Natural Transitions Magazine with images of some of my paintings.
